Summer Flower Arrangement
Memorial Day is normally the first initial kick off to summer…
and since that was this weekend, I thought I’d feature two of my favorite summer flowers in a floral arrangement. The distant drum rose and koko loco rose, have you heard of them? These two roses are highly coveted flowers in the wedding industry as of late. They are such unique roses and we are lucky enough to have two distant drum rose bushes and one koko loco bush in our yard. I always have a hard time deciding whether or not to clip the roses to design an arrangement, or leave them on the bush for the rest of the world to enjoy. In this case, I clipped!
To help you tell the difference…
Distant drum - fades from a mauve-y pink to a light brown or golden center
Koko loco - a true mauve color rose
The arrangement featured in these photos is one of my all time favorites and was captured by Alexandra Grace Photography. It features some other really great late spring/early summer goodies - spirea, blueberry foliage and not quite ripe berries, a few foraged greens from our yard/alley and three roses - helga piaget, distant drum and koko loco. A simple and sweet recipe that makes quite a cheerful impact!
If you want to learn more about my design and arranging process, head to this post. I dive into a short and sweet tutorial to get you started. If not, enjoy the photos! I’ve had these saved as my computer backdrop and phone backdrop before and they really make me smile. :)
